PRSA Tampa Bay members Lisa Wolf-Chason and Leah Bueno, APR, hosted their second gathering of PRSA parents, which allowed PR professionals to trade tips and tricks on how they’ve gotten through the pandemic working at home with their kids out of school.

Lisa, who has yet to experience parenting outside of a pandemic, has an 11-month-old son at home. She voiced her concern with sending her child to preschool for the first time and asked other parents how they have handled decisions about children sending their children back to school.

One PRSA parent recommended evaluating the school’s COVID protocols. Their child’s school installed cameras in each classroom so parents could watch teachers follow cleaning protocols.

"PRSA Parents helped me realize that no matter how much we are juggling or what is on our plates, working caregivers are not alone. It has been especially important to feel connected during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Wolf-Chason said.

Parents also pointed out that children can get sick from many other illnesses besides COVID-19.  The habit of handwashing will help, and should continue past the pandemic, several parents said.

Many parents feel that working at home during the pandemic has split their attention between their kids, who are doing online school, and their jobs. It’s been difficult for them to feel like they’re giving 100% to either. Parents were excited to go back to the office, however, they would miss the time they’ve had with their kids.

“As both a parent and a PR professional, parenting during a pandemic has brought many new challenges. PRSA Parents has been a nice outlet for like-minded professionals who are also parents to share a common bond and learn from each other,” Bueno said.

Gathering together and sharing their trials and tribulations helped PRSA parents realize they’re not alone during this pandemic.

Be on the lookout for their next session this fall to be announced soon!
