I had the distinct honor of attending this year’s PRSA International Conference as the Tampa Bay PRSA chapter scholarship winner, and what an incredible opportunity it was! From the amazing keynotes to the informative breakouts and networking, PRSAICON was four days of public relations immersion and learning that left me happily exhausted and proud of the industry and organization that I am a part of.
This year’s conference theme, Leading the Way – A Fearless Future for PR, resonated throughout the discussions. The rapid pace at which technology has changed our industry and the worlds of those who walk beside us in business and journalism continues to disrupt and challenge all of us to keep learning and leading those who we serve. The impact of social media was a huge theme that resurfaced frequently, from how to manage from a PR perspective to how real-time news has transformed our personal lives, as reflected so touchingly by keynote speaker Amy Robach, the Good Morning America anchor who discovered on-air last year that she had breast cancer during a televised story on mammograms. The strength and support she received through social media during her treatment has inspired her and others, demonstrating the power of a connected world to make an impact and create change.
Next year, the PRSA International Conference moves a bit closer to home, as Atlanta plays host to the annual event. After my experience this year as the scholarship winner, I’m hooked on attending this conference, and will definitely be budgeting attendance at PRSAICON 2015 into my training for next year. Anyone ready for a road trip?
